Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to what most guests want to know before they book.

Where is Skyline Retreat Ohio?
Skyline Retreat is in Pike County near Waverly, Ohio. It is about 5 minutes from Lake White State Park, 20 minutes from Pike Lake State Park, and 22 minutes from Scioto Trail State Park. Drive times: 1 hr 14 min from Columbus, 1 hr 47 min from Cincinnati, 1 hr 37 min from Dayton, 3 hr 31 min from Cleveland.
Is Skyline Retreat a campground?
No. It is private land with a handful of campsites spread across 3 acres, booked through HipCamp with staggered availability. That means you'll almost always have the entire property — trails, hills, and off-grid peace — effectively to yourself.
What kind of camping is allowed?
Primitive tent camping year-round, plus self-contained RVs under 28 feet. There are no water, sewer, or electric hookups. Bring your own gear and water.
Is there cell service or WiFi?
WiFi is available in select work zones for remote-work guests. Cell service is limited, which most guests come here for.
Can I work remotely from Skyline Retreat?
Yes. We have WiFi work zones built for focus work. Pair it with a tent, an RV, or a day pass.
How do I book?
All bookings go through HipCamp. Pick a campsite, pick your dates, pay through HipCamp.
What is the difference between your campsites?
Each site sleeps 6 and comes with a fire ring, picnic table, and hot/cold outdoor shower. The amenities are consistent — the geography is not. Aurora's Grove is a hardwood clearing close to the entrance, open and easy to settle into. Orion's Pointe is more wooded and tucked in, with a stronger off-grid feel. Skyline Summit sits on a hilltop with panoramic ridge views and the darkest sky on the property — 4WD required to get up there. Pick based on the kind of land you want around you.
What does "intentionally evolving" mean?
We add amenities every month and tell you exactly what is available now, what is coming soon, and what is still a future vision. Nothing is hyped. See the public Roadmap for the current state.
Is Skyline Retreat right for first-time campers?
Absolutely. All sites have drive-up access, so car camping is completely viable — pop a tent next to your vehicle, keep your cooler and gear within arm\'s reach, and sleep under the stars without hauling anything far. A pop-up tent works perfectly here. It\'s a real outdoor setting without being deep in the wilderness, which makes it an ideal first trip for testing your kit before committing to something more remote.
What is nearby besides Lake White?
Pike Lake State Park is 12.7 miles. Scioto Trail State Park is 13.9 miles. Fort Hill Earthworks is 26.9 miles. Serpent Mound is 35 miles. Hocking Hills State Park is 48 miles.
